I've searched around a bit, but haven't been able to find any good explanations. Does anyone know how Urchin calculates connection speed? We have a client that is showing a pretty large percentage of dial up users, and wants to know how accurate it is.

Is it reasonable to assume these numbers are pretty accurate. The reason I'm wondering, is because we have a client that's showing a pretty big percentage of dial up users, and it has us all questioning the report.

If there's any doubt as to what a visitor's connection speed is, then Urchin will report the connection speed as Unknown. If Urchin reports a visitor as having used dial-up, then it's reasonably certain that the visitor did in fact use dial-up.
